Check List : Converge

Here is a simple check list for Bandai's Gundam Converge series. Figures in this line are only about 5-6 cm tall and have been given a compacted appearance, though not as deformed as for example the BB Senshi SD line of figures. Converge items are manufactured for Bandai by Fusion Works, the company who has also done the larger STANDart and Ultimate Operation series.

Figures in this line are snapped together from half a dozen parts or so and normally have some limited articulation such as heads, arms and wrists. They are commonly released in waves of six figures with one of the figures receiving a hidden secret version.

This list is continuously updated and completed over time as new waves become available. Links below lead to separate blog entries where a particular item or wave is analyzed in more detail.

For a quick overview, take a peek into our slowly aggregating Converge Gallery.

  1. Crooks! Did you spot the bit about the Geara Doga in Converge #03? They will release a BLUE Geara Doga in Converge #04 with a slightly different weapon set. See http://hobby.dengeki.com/news/154327/

    1. I was just wondering where the blue machine went. So it seems the new Converge figures will not be decked out with optional gear as a new standard. Still, my fears were that Rezyn's Geara Doga would pop up as a pricy limited item of some sort, but if it comes as a regular figure that seems ok. Now if they would release Full Frontal's red version as well I'd be really stoked. But... I am already flying high anticipating the Gabthley which I have waited for for so long. The Titans are finally getting the love it seems. :)

    2. I'm loving these new units and designs. They're getting better and better. Are you prepared for the Neue Ziel? :P

    3. Bandai, I doubt you read this web site, but if you do...Baund Doc, Palace Athene, Messala, Hamarabi, Gaza-C/E, Zaku III, Doven Wolf, Dreissen, Ga-Zownn, Zssa...and many more. Are you listening??

  2. Can anyone explain this: http://i.imgur.com/KW2nMrQ.jpg
Look at the middle shelf, third row from the bottom, sandwiched between the Zogok and Zock.
It's a JUAGGU. HOW? Is it a mod? Looks too "clean" to be a mod, the rocket tube hands and elephant-like head look perfect. Full scratch build? Unlikely, this guy doesn't mod any of his other units on display...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It looks like the Strategy of Gundam 1/300 Juaggu. I don't have that particular figure myself but it should be comparable in size to a Converge. A couple of nice modifications on that shelf. I see a Black Tristar Zaku I with a borrowed Bazooka and the Zeta with a Zaku II head. The DOM wielding a beam saber is less convincing though. :)

      Delete
  3. Thanks for clarifying. Given the deformed shape of the Juaggu I guess the 1/300 SOG unit could actually sit nicely alongside a Converge. Oh how I wish they released the Juaggu (Unicorn Ver.)... while they're at it, please also do the Agguguy. That would complete the amphibious Converge lineup. But surely the engineers at Bandai are spending their time dreaming up the next SP/EX/CORE/Limited/Overpriced set instead.

  4. Rumor -- SP08 coming in October. Destiny Gundam vs. Infinite Justice Gundam.
Come on, Bandai, whatever happened to my Full Armor ZZ vs. Doven Wolf??

    1. Wow, they are really going all-in on the Cosmic Era timeline. Come on, give us a GINN already.

    2. Hugely disappointed, for someone who only cares about UC designs. Ex-S Gundam vs. Psycho Gundam Mk-V would be a no brainer. They can recycle much of EX03 as well as the mould of Silver Bullet from Part 16, then deck them both out with more gear.

  5. They just announced two more GFT exclusive releases. Unicorn Gundam unit 3 - Phenex (Comes in 2 colors!)
I know you will have a field day berating the fact that we will have more Unicorns, LOL

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Heh, we certainly don't need any more vanilla Unicorns but the Phenex is at least a slightly different design and has the potential to be really good looking. Guess it won't be showing up on the Bandai Shokugan page. Do you know anything about expected release date and/or price? Thanks for the tip!

    2. Saw it on the official converge page on Facebook. Should be around 1700 yen each (tax included) and scheduled to be released on 10th August

  7. I saw in your reviews that you got some of your stuff from Hong Kong. I'm going to visit there soon and I was hoping you have any place you would recommend if I want to hunt for Converge figures. Can you help? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi, I am based in Hong Kong and actually specialize in selling Converge figures and sets through eBay. I typically put together custom bulk-orders for buyers primarily in the USA and Canada. If you are only in town briefly it'll save us both time and money if you just provide me a wish list of what you want and we can either trade in person or I can courier your toys to a hotel or something. It'll save me eBay fees, too. I have pretty much the entire Converge line-up available, though I only post a few on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/usr/fphsiu

      Delete
    2. There are a couple of malls that specialize in toys and collectibles, filled with small shops where you can find all sorts of crazy things. It is often not so easy to find anything specific though. There are just so many toy lines coming out of Japan that Gundam gashapon and shokugan figures really have to fight for a place on the shelves. Two really good places to check out are Sino Centre and Richmond 111, both on Kowloon side. You can find them being mentioned in several blogs if you google Hong Kong Toy Shops.

There's also a chain of candy shops called Okashiland that used to have all the latest shokugan Gundam figures for very attractive prices. Not sure if they still sell them. Last year I saw shelves filled with STANDart Rick Dias and Zaku I:s standing around looking sad and unwanted. I seriously considered buying the whole lot, but lack of bag space prevented me. :)

I have also come across some smaller gashapon-focus shops where many different sellers' stuff is sold from numbered compartments. This can be a real gold mine if the seller isn't particularily specialized in Gundam, but you really have to get lucky. Mostly it is about feeding the thrill of the hunt anyway (wife is not impressed). Dedicated Gundam shops tend to focus on large model kits, so you'll often come up empty in places like that.

      Delete
    3. Thanks a lot for the offer, fphsiu. I have actually browsed your shop in ebay more than a few times! Unfortunately, I don't really have any particular wishlist currently, and I usually visit shops just for the thrill of the hunt, as the author said before.
Thanks for the tip as well, Sarge Shokugan. Will check them out and see what I can find

      Delete
  8. As a Hong Kong resident and Gundam aficionado/seller I "endorse" and agree with everything the author posted above. You should also check out Ins Point in Yau Ma Tei, which is a 10 min walk from the two locations he mentioned, and has a far bigger selection and is the de-facto location where many vintage toy collectors trade and hang out. That said, his point about the difficulty in finding specific items is very true. All these stores and malls are packed to the roof with goodies but Hong Kong real estate is notoriously expensive and Shokugan, unfortunately, pale in value compared with elaborate resin kits and other exquisite collectables, so they rarely make it on to the shelves. In fact I cannot think of more than half a dozen stores that have an "extensive" collection of Converge figures. If you are hoping to find a toy seller who is "less informed" about market prices and the relative popularity of Converge figures, hoping to find a bargain...well, good luck. All these guys talk to each other. But don't let that deter you, I suppose part of the fun is simply exploring these places. I picked up a Part 4 Char's Gelgoog for $12.50 last week while visiting a fellow supplier, but exceptions like that don't happen all the time. In any case, if searching does prove difficult, I again offer my services to you, as I do have the full Converge line-up available. I don't have a store, as this isn't my job proper, but rest assured I can get you pretty much anything listed on this blog at a reasonable price.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, save for the red Hummingbird and my Okashiland starter kit back in 2013 I don't think I have made any Converge purchases in Hong Kong shops. It is much easier to find bargains if you are hunting for gashapons. Really hoping to find someone selling the new Mini Kit Collection figures next time I visit.

      Delete
    2. Gundam Converge -- or Shokugan in general -- aren't high on these stores' priority list because of their relatively low dollar value. Most toy stores will carry the most recent Converge units (say, whatever has been released in the past 3 or so months) but once those sell out they won't restock. Right now, Converge #03, EX10, EX11, and EX12 Neue Ziel are all the rage, and loads of EX09 (which is proving hugely unpopular). Anything older than that might be hard to find. The new stuff will be available at fairly attractive prices (half of eBay?) but prices shoot up exponentially once you hit the rare, out of print units. For example, a pair of 7-11 Gundam MK-II and Blue Z'Goks recently sold for ~$125 USD from a store in Richmond Centre, and units from Part 1 (if you can even find a seller with them) will easily go for close to $100 USD a piece.

      Delete
    3. Thanks for all the input, guys. Now I'm really looking forward to this trip!

      Delete
    4. Hopefully this will make your life easier:

      - Sino Centre: lots of manga and anime shops, not much by way of Converge.

      - Richmond Shopping Arcade:
      "The Wuso" (basement) has a good selection of older Converge but not always on display;
      nothing on G/F;
      1/F has one shop with only Gundam and Kamen Rider stuff, with some Converge at good prices (e.g. Core 003 for ~$20 USD, the Art of Gundam sets at ~$25 USD);
2/F has one shop in the back corner with almost the full Converge line-up on display and most available for sale

      - Ins Point
      1/F, right beside the staircase leading up to 2/F, has a decent selection of Converge, easily spottable;
      1/F, 2-3 shops adjacent or across from each other, on the opposite side of the building, lots of Converge;
      1/F, first store you see after going up the escalator, with many of the newer units, also one of the few stores in HK selling the The Origin III Promotional Zaku II Full Weapon Metallic Ver, for ~$55 USD;
      not much on 2/F

      Delete
    5. HK addendum...

      - Sino Centre: while most of the stores are in the mall proper, there are also a number of toy stores located in the office spaces above the mall. You have to take the elevator to access these separately. "Naughty Guy Toys" (find on facebook) is one such store. A few weeks ago I picked up a Converge Book and RX-78/Zaku GFT Clear Ver set for ~$23 USD each there, quite good.

      - Richmond Acarde:
"Gradline Toy" (again, find on FB) occupies three stores in the basement and has a decent selection of Converge, although often not displayed.

      - Ins Point
1/F or 2/F, I forget. There is one 'store' which is not a store per se but rather a set of transparent shelves lined up against the wall of the main escalator. Tucked away in one such shelf is a good amount of really old Converge. I've seen rarities like Part 2 Zaku's, Goufs, ReZELs and Part 4 Gyans. These have been sitting there a long time, partly due to their insanely high price.

      Delete
  9. FYI -- Okashiland -- mentioned by the author, is typically found inside subway stations. It's a candy store. As such, they will only stock the latest Shokugan range, you won't find rare, out-of-print items on the shelf. They are also considerably more expensive than the stores found in the specialist toy malls mentioned previously. In short, I wouldn't bother with Okashiland at all.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The information about Hong Kong gundam stores and shops is priceless. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if you have a similar shop list for Tokyo, other than Akihabara and GFT stores, since I'll be there in august and it would be great to complete my collection ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I made all my Gundam related purchases in Akihabara. Don't forget to snoop around all the small shops in the side streets, including those gashapon markets. I picked up a good number of the rare STANDarts and Converge there. Can't recommend any other zones in Tokyo but would also be interested to know. Can also recommend Osaka, which has a certain street filled with Gundam/toy shops, pure heaven.

      Delete
    2. Tokyo is a whole different ball game. While I'm not expert I do visit quite frequently so I'll add my two cents. My authoritative sources please chime in.

My experience with Akihabara in recent years is that the hordes of Chinese tourists in search of electronic gizmos have driven most of the toy/anime/manga shops away from the "core" Akihabara area. As such, you'll have to wander farther away from the "town center" to find what you're looking for. Radio Kaikan is probably the only place (right next to the station) with stuff you're looking for.

As you start going farther out (10-15 min walk?) look for the following stores. Many are "chains" with at least half a dozen numbered stores in the Akihabara area, each specializing in different goods, so be sure to visit each one.

      - Liberty (many stores)
      - Leonardo (many stores)
      - Mandarake (a legend in itself and occupies a whole building)
      - Jungle (one standalone store, one small shop in Radio Kaikan)
      - Yellow Submarine
      - Gashapon Tower (google this for exact location)

As with Hong Kong, none of these specialize in Shokugan or Converge. And there are so many more varieties of toys and hobby goods in Japan, it's not uncommon once again for Converge items not to make it to the shelves. When I last visited in January 2016, I noticed that

      - one of the Liberty stores (forgot which) had the biggest selection of Converge I've seen. Ever. (even rarities like Part 3 Marasai's were available in legions) Incidentally the highest prices I encountered that trip.

      - I really enjoyed Jungle. The shop in Radio Kaikan is small and somewhat disappointing but their other store is much bigger and a much farther walk but had a very impressive selection of Gundam goods. I did almost all my shopping here. All their Converge units, however, are sold in collapsed boxes. So even the "new" units are removed from their boxes. So perfectionists take note. Jungle is Osaka-based, so if you visit there, be sure to check out their flagship.

      - Mandarake, as noted above, is epic and simply a must-visit. But, I personally found the Mandarake building in Akihabara somewhat lacking on mecha related toys. If you want Gundam, visit Madarake's mother ship, located in the equally famous hobby mall of NAKANO BROADWAY. Mandarake occupies probably a fourth of the store space there. Each numbered store specializes in something, and their Gundam shop is quite impressive.

Both Mandarake and Jungle also deal in second hand goods and offer online ordering which a much wider selection of goods online. (in English, too) Mandarake offers automatic tax refunds for foreigners, both online and in-store. Jungle only does so for physical purchases in store. This can save you ~10% and is not to be underestimated!

You can also check out Amazon.co.jp and search for "Converge Shop". It's run by a nice Japanese lady and specializes in its namesake. She actually sources all her Asia/Overseas limited edition units and sets from me. If you are looking for something she does not have, she may occasionally be willing to buy it on your behalf from Yahoo Japan and ship it to you, with minimal mark-up.

Interestingly I find that Converge prices in Hong Kong are sometimes cheaper than Japan. There are simply too many die-hard collectors in Japan driving prices up. In fact, I have sold quite a few very old Converge units "back" to customers in Japan: Part 1 units, 7-11 Z'Goks, Part 3 Marasais, that sort of stuff. And with the Japanese Yen approaching a two year high, it'll make shopping in Japan that much pricier.

As with our other readers, I offer my services to you if you need help buying specific units. Just get in touch with my via eBay and provide me a wish list to get started. I won't be surprised if I can beat some of the prices you find during your Tokyo visit. I actually sold a few units to this blog's author a year or two ago.

  11. Thanks a lot for the info!! I will really look into those stores and places. This time I picked up my hotel at Akihabara itself, so I'll have plenty of time to look around there. I just love the place, not only for converge figures, also for any star wars, hobby or hardware related items.
I've been already to some of these stores, but I always kept my feet close to the main street. This time I'll go a little further ;) thanks for the tip!
I also do some shoping in Amazon.jp, but they do not always have the overseas editions, so I'll keep you posted if I need your help with these items since it seems to be more available and lowpriced in HK, although the shipping cost and customs taxes are a setback for me (I live in Spain).
I usually go to Japan once or twice a year, so I try to do all my shoping during my trips, or do it online and send the items to relatives that keep them for me until I pick them up :)

  12. SP08 Infinite Justice vs. Destiny confirmed. But it'll be November, contrary to what I said earlier. And interestingly it's P-Bandai. Costs almost 4000+ yen. Which is getting really ridiculous. I remember first getting into Gundam back in the late 1980s with Ganso SD Gundam kits which cost 480 yen each and gives you a big hunk of quality injection moulded plastic with detailed parts, good articulation and plenty of accessories.

    1. Some online shops near my place opened the pre-order for SP08 priced at 2500 yen.

There is also a P-Bandai set of Strike Freedom vs Destiny with Wing of light effect and higher price. Maybe that is the one with 4000 price tag?

      Delete
    2. Yes that is what I meant. Instead of including more optional weapons and parts per overpriced unit, Bandai has decided to milk its die-hard customers even more. Bandai, please please just give me a Full Armor ZZ vs. Doven Wolf for Christmas? Or a bunch of grunt units from MSV will also do...

    3. I'm still hoping for an Ex-S vs Mk-V someday.. the red Ex-S from Ex03 is simply not enough..

      Delete
    4. I agree, Ex-S vs. Psycho MK-V is the other obvious choice for an SP. There are tons of other brilliant designs from Gundam Sentinel. They can turn the Xeku Zwei into another massive overpriced EX or CORE. The various Nero variants would be nice, too.

      Delete
    5. I'd bet my money on the next SP being some kind of Barbatos showdown (have no idea who or what its nemesis is). Sentinel seems highly unlikely. Also strange that ZZ isn't getting any love, this being the 30th anniversary and all. Maybe they will make a limited Beargguy in ZZ colours for Christmas...

      Delete
    6. Would you look at that, they announced the Xeku Zwei into a massive overpriced Universal Unit instead!

  13. You are probably right. Though I haven't really kept up with any Gundam series past the early 1990s so none of these new characters interest me. There are so many slam-dunks Bandai can score from Z/ZZ era designs. I'm sure there's a massive Converge fan base waiting for a Zaku III. Geymalk would be cool but not sure how the size/scale would work. An SP/EX/CORE consisting of Zeta Gundam Type 3A/3B/3C would also be an instant winner.

    1. Actually -- reading the fine print in Japanese, it appears the photos are not of the actual units themselves. The RX-78-2 will be a "7-11 Colors" while the Zeta and Nu will be in "Real Type Colors". So it won't be a reprint but rather a new paint job.

      Delete
    2. Interesting find, especially since I have no clue what a Real-Type Zeta or Nu would look like. Dangerously close to 7-11 colours I would imagine... :)

      Delete
    3. Nu and Zeta Real Type Color are definitely non-canon but traditionally real type has meant a darker, more 'weathered' look. The RX-78-2 Real Type which came with the Zaku II Real Type in the Art of Gundam SP was really nice, if they can replicate that quality of paint job with the Zeta and Nu, I'd be very impressed...

  16. New Mobile Suit Ensemble figure series announced! http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2016/08/bandai-gashapon-mobile-suit-ensemble-on.html Sculpts make them look very similar to the designs from the FW Converge designers' works except with plastics joints like the Gashapon NEXT figs and more interchangeable weaponry. Following other line traditions, they are doing more P-Bandai products.... the Full Armor Unicorn definitely resembles its Converge counterpart: http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2016/08/p-bandai-exclusive-mobile-suit-ensemble.html Eitherway, they look promising! Ideally I hope they are Shokugan products instead of Gashapon so we can expect decent paintjobs and no bent parts

    1. Oh boy... they do look very similar to the Converge dimensions don't they? Hard to make out the size on those things but I would wager they are considerably larger and made out of hard plastic? NX Edgestyle comes to mind. Price will probably not be pretty.

      Delete
    2. A lot of converge fans in my area are worried they might stop and replace Converge with the new Mobile Suit Ensemble, especially since they seem to be pumping out converges a bit too quickly, as if they are finishing like Assault Kingdom. Although as far as I know, Converge is still selling pretty decently, so it is not probable IMO (please correct me if I'm mistaken)

    - Barbatos Lupus
    - Hi-Nu
    - Some sort of GM sniper (not familiar)
    - Gundam Kyrios? (again, not familar)
    - Original RGM-79 GM (again??)
    - Byarlant

    1. OK, I take it back, it appears to be a RGM-179 GM II from the Z/ZZ series, not the original RGM-79 GM. The second one is a similar mold, but a RGM-179 GM II Semi-Striker from Gundam Unicorn, it is equipped with a cool looking beam spear thing. Phew! Not as bad as I thought. But reissuing Hi-Nu (with no changes except a more colorful rifle) was a cheap shot, Bandai.

    2. Better shots, especially of the GM II Semi Striker and epic double beam spear here: http://hobby.dengeki.com/event/264674/

Ezcited for Byarlant, although the shape looks a bit too deformed from the pictures

    4. Great, thanks for the heads-up. Bit of a meh-set, isn't it? Nothing really grabs my attention but I appreciate that they keep filling the ranks of Celestial Being and the Titans. The GM II:s should serve well as conversion figures too. I already think about recolouring them into an A.E.U.G. GM II and the ol' RGM-79FP GM Striker respectively.

      Delete
  19. That's right, it's good they are giving the Titans proper representation. Now all we really need are the Palace Athene, Messala, and Baund Doc. The grunts are pretty much complete except for the Action Zaku and Galbaldy. On the AEUG side, it would be good if we finally got the Methuss.

  20. Earlier rumor confirmed: 7-11 Selection due in November. RX-78-2 in 7-11 colors, Nu and Zeta both in "Real Type Color". Not new designs; new paintjobs on old molds. RX-78-2 is the original Part 1 mold, Nu is the Part 3 funnel version, and Zeta is the Part 11 version. The 7-11 color is neat, the other two are somewhat mediocre; simply darker matte finish.

      http://www.taghobby.com/?p=147009

EX15 priced at 3500 JPY, which seems odd given that it's a huge figure (bigger than Neue Ziel) and Nightingale is also 3500 JPY.

Hamarabi a very welcome addition, as is the MK-II Titans new mold.

    2. Let me guess, there will be a P-Bandai exclusive Psychoframe Ring set for the Neo Zeong soon

      Delete
    3. Ha ha, I love reading the comments on this page. Regarding the new releases I think we all suspected that the Neo Zeong would show up one day, now that the size-barrier is thoroughly broken by the Stardust Memory mobile armors. Next year we'll see a Psyco Gundam and a Queen Mansa in metallic colours, they just need to recycle the drawings they did for Assault Kingdom and resize them a little... easy money.

      Delete
    4. EX16 through EX20: Big Zam, Shamblo, Alpha-Azieru, Apsalus, Psycho Gundam!

In all seriousness, I'm quite sure they will do some P-Bandai option pack. Yes, psychoframe ring, and very likely something to make those four arms on its back usable.

      Delete
    5. The two remaining units are a bit unconventional. They are technically from the Zeta Gundam universe albeit non-canon (from a video game I believe). LRX-077 Sisquiede, Titans Colors and AEUG Colors. http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/LRX-077_Sisquiede

If we're going non-canon I'd rather FW develop a few more MSV units. A Psycommu Zaku (yes, the one that looks like a Zeong) would be awesome.

      Delete
    6. I had never heard of the Sisquiede before but I really like the look of it. Still a bit unimaginative that there has to be an A.E.U.G. repaint... can't fault FW for that though. I was searching around for it in the Wing alternate timelines thinking it might be something like a Geminass.

Speaking about Zakus isn't it weird that there are so few Zaku variations in Converge? A couple of High Mobility variants, Char's red one (in Lord knows how many variations) and the long gone green MS-06F.

      Delete
    7. As a fan of all things Zaku, I couldn't agree more. The possibilities are endless and I'm sure these signature units would have a strong fan base.

MSV: Psycommu Zaku, Zaku Desert Type, Zaku Cannon
Z: Action Zaku, Zaku Marine Type
ZZ: Zaku III, Desert Zaku, Zaku Mariner, EWAC Zack
      0080: Zaku II Kai
      0083: Zaku II F2

Even if FW were cheap and simply wanted to recycle the High Mobility mold there are many color variations to play with: Gabby Hazard, Robert Giliam, Uma Lightning, etc.

      Delete
  26. Crooks -- the Japanese on the pic of the MK-II suggests that the shoulder marking (01, 02, 03) is RANDOM. So hardcore collectors will have to buy many random units to get all three variants...

    1. That's pretty clever... and a bit evil. I did love the numbering practice in the 1/400 Gundam Collection series though, where it used to be very frequent. If there is anything I really want three figures of though, it has got to be the Hambrabi. The picture does suggest it has been given the same treatment as the Barzam and the Asshimar though, short and stubby.

      Delete
    2. The Hambrabi does look a bit SD-like, you're right. But at least it reaffirms FW's commitment to the Titans line up. It looks like my dreams of a Baund Doc, Palace Athene, Messala might soon come true!

    2. I know we're all accustomed to whining but I think this release might actually score top marks for being the most unwanted and overpriced set ever released, the RX-78-2 Origin metallic screening version probably taking second place.

If you're patient and have access to Hong Kong street stores I bet these will drop to ~20 USD within half a year of release. A good number of retailers here are already complaining about having to sell Converge at a loss in the past year because of low demand, mostly driven by unwanted designs, exorbitant prices, and oversupply by Bandai. The silly overseas pearl/metallic stuff have all fallen to ~$100 HKD per set (~$13 USD) recently.

      Delete
  31. The funny thing is, imagine if they gave a bog standard ReZEL and a Jegan the metallic coat and slapped it up as a pricey CORE package. Fans would most likely laud this move and might even consider buying multiple sets. It is like the marketing head honchos are completely disconnected from what the fans want for their collections.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed, but what you describe is symptomatic of marketing and product development in most corporates anyway!

Speaking of your Jegan, imagine if they took the old Jegan mold and beefed it up to become a Proto Stark Jegan. That would sell like hotcakes even at outrageous CORE prices.

Alternatively maybe we are wrong, perhaps there are enough die-hard fans in the domestic Japanese market who will lap up whatever Bandai dishes out. As a seller, I can tell you the silly overseas metallic stuff is hugely popular in Japan, I have sold boxes of this stuff to folks in Japan who then resell on Amazon/Yahoo/Rakuten for 5000+ yen per set.

    2. Stark Jegan, Jesta Cannon, and Rezel commander type (or defender type) will really make army builders happy.

I am holding om for a Zaku II re-releaze in the near future. It surprises me that they will re-release some figures five times but skip others. I am also hoping for G Gundam representation. Master, Shining, Burning (with burning hand this time), maybe Shadow, and of course a large Dark/Devil Gundam!

Again thank you and I look forward to what you have in store! :)

    1. Oh wait, on further thinking they could make Dark Gundam a normal figure and Ultimate Gundam an EX size figure. I am not sure what fans would think of that, especially how Japan didn't seem as receptive to that series as much. Maybe just Master and Shining are good enough.

I also would be interested in more Wing Gundam figures. The few ones we got are very nice. With the Endless Waltz ones coming soon I hope this means more interest in more original Wing Gundam figures.

    2. Agreed, still waiting for some Oz representation in Converge but honestly I have a feeling we will maybe get the five Colony Nations Gundams at best. Notice how the 00 figures seem to stop short with the Kyrios and from wave six Bandai turns their attention to Wing.

    3. I've never gotten into anything past UC-era stuff, but I suppose Burning Gundam vs. Master Gundam would be a logical SP pair to hope for. I still think Ex-S Gundam vs. Gundam Mk-V would be superb, as would a Full Armor ZZ dueling something.

I was curious if you had seen the new FW SD Neo toys (http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2016/10/fw-sd-gundam-neo-release-info.html), not sure if they are gashapon or shokugan. Either way I was wandering if you are going to be reviewing these? I think they look pretty cool kind of a mix between converge and sd, plus they're by FW so quality should be decent. They also have the TR-6 in their first set! What are your thoughts on them?

    1. Yes, I saw them and what captured my attention is the two Marasai figures. The grey-colored, un-painted prototype units that you see showcased at fairs and exhibitions months ahead of their scheduled release. I'm told that for every Converge release, there are very few prototype units made, and Bandai actually orders them to be destroyed once the final product is out, so "leaks" like this are incredibly difficult to come by! 2. I have a feeling that ZZ gundam new mold will be for the next regular release. It is the only classic gundam without a new mold (not counting Mk-II in AEUG colors)

      Delete
    3. It's also the something-something anniversary of ZZ (there's already a MG release). If Bandai's product development team were sensible, they'd do a re-issue of ZZ, paired up with a bulky white/blue/grey FAZZ from Gundam Sentinel. I would love the latter.

    4. If they release all of the MAs that you predict I will be one happy camper :D Also a re-sculpt of ZZ with a FAZZ would be killer in #8!

    5. Pretty lackluster line-up although I am sure the figures will be great. I wonder if this also means they are canning the After Colony line without a Sandrock or Altron, it certainly would not surprise me.

    6. I believe this is the first time we've had four units in a set from the same anime series, in this case, Zeta Gundam. Could have at least opted for a Methuss or a Nemo. A certain Taiwanese toy blog was gunning for a Messala or Palace Athene.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, still waiting for my unit to arrive. Not really expecting much from it to be honest so I think I will be pleasantly surprised. Right now I have also been trying to source all the figures for wave six as well which is proving pretty tiresome as I have been forced to pick some up here and there.

  45. Secret figures have returned (kind of).

Remember how happy we were when the Geara Doga figure includes 3 differemt headpieces?

Well, the newest Mk-II is supposed to have 3 different unit numbers shown in their left shoulder, but this time you only get 1 random number, no extra shoulder parts for the other numbers

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, the Mk-II has been a bit of a pain in the rear. It has taken me quite some time to find (reasonably priced) copies of each variant. Currently there are three units en route in three different packages... I only have the tail end of volume 6 in the hangar so far, so the review will be yesterday's news once it finally happens.

  47. Quite a bit of Converge news today from the Bandai site.

    - Launch of "Converge Station" which will be a blog devoted to Converge news. The next update post will be May 19.
    - Announcement of additional units from the Gundam Sentinel series. Two more units as part of the standard "retail" lineup (#/sharpe series, maybe #08) due in Oct 2017, one more EX towards year end.
    - A silhouette of a mystery unit, doesn't say if it's Converge #08 or what.

    Thoughts?

    - The silhouette is clearly God Gundam. See http://i65.tinypic.com/5bv11v.jpg where I've enhanced the image. But no Devil Gundam to duel it?
    - More Sentinel units is good news...not sure what the two #08 units might be, but I'm guessing the Xeku Zwei or EX-S Gundam have a good chance of making that EX, there are not many other "celebrity" units from the series. As to the two grunts, a FAZZ might be interesting but some Nero variants would be better.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, I just saw the blog myself, it is a good thing that Bandai is willing to launch a Converge blog as far as keeping the figure line alive. As for two Sentinel figures popping up in October it could either be a double pack (think SP) or two figures in the standard figure line. If it is the latter, I wouldn't expect anything more thrilling than a couple of colour variations of the same figure. Nero sounds too good to be true, my money would be on a [resculpted] Zeta Plus A1 and C1 or something like that.

      Delete
    2. Nero, Nero Trainer, EWAC Nero! (yeah right...) More like, as you say, more Zeta Plus color variations or a cheap shot like taking the Gundam MK-V and painting it white for the Amuro Ray custom.

      Delete
    3. Based on the link, there will be 2 regular Sentinel figure, and 1 EX to be released.

Here's hoping for a Xeku Zwei or a FAZZ for the EX. A Z'odiack might be too unrealistic because its not too popular.

      Delete
    4. Sergeant Shokugan: I guess we were both too optimistic. I wanted Neros, you said Zeta Pluses with different coloring schemes. All we got was two identical Zeta Pluses with different guns! What the heck? Bandai what are you thinking?????

-Gundam Mk-II in AEUG Colors for CORE. Includes G-Defenser parts for Super Gundam

    1. Great...just what we needed. More overpriced reprints. Come on, Bandai, listen to your fans. Please. It seems much of the creative energy has gone over to FW SD Gundam NEO. Their latest set has a RX-78-6 Mudrock Gundam...now that's something you don't see every day! This is what Converge used to be, offering a chance to pick up some obscure units.

      Delete
    2. yeah, we thought the previous set was bad with 4 reprints, but now all except 1 unit is a reprint..

T be fair, these new units look great and comes with comprehensive equipments

      Delete
    3. These were the exact two Zetas I had in mind. Seeing as they featured in Universal Unit 2 this puts the Xeku Zwei as a rather low odds candidate for the remaining Sentinel Converge entry. Anyone want to bet if the A1/C1 figures will be handled in the same fashion as the Titans Unit 01/02/03 or as individually numbered figures? Stay tuned also for an Alpha Azieru, it can't be far away now (followed by a CORE metallic version six months later).

Frankly it is hard to muster much interest for what is going on in Converge lately. I don't think it is healthy that Bandai are running so many concurrent figure series if all they are going to do is changing the proportions of the same old molds before shipping the drawings to the factory.

I also think that the SD NEO remark above is highly relevant and the new Senshi Forte SD line is also proof of some inspired creative work. (It will be appearing on the site once I find the time to do it). Still, after two sets of regular Gashapons they just announced two EX figures, the Penelope and the Psycho Gundam. It just all goes round and round.

      Delete
    4. All the creative resources are definitely going to NEO. Just look at the newest set. RX-78-6 Mudrock was an awesome off-the-beaten-path choice. Baund Doc another wacky signature Titans design. We Converge suckers are just bankrolling these other product developments at Bandai. Coming your way soon: Quin Mantha (even more likely than Alpha Azieru), Apsalus, Big Zam, etc. All CORE at 5000 yen each. I actually don't mind the Psycho Gundam, and it would pair very well with a Psycho Gundam MK-II...

    5. What is the situation on the ground in HK these days? I get the impression that less of the local merchants offer Converge figures online. Is supply drying up locally as well?

Oh, and you're right regarding Queen Mansa of course, I keep mixing it up with the Azieru. With the basic design already implemented in Assault Kingdom it seems due for reuse in Converge, just like the Neo Zeong and Psycho Gundam before it... Have to say though that the Converge take on the Psycho looks promising, not too oversized and it has a nice Converge look to it as well.

      Delete
    6. Funny you ask. Many HK retailers have essentially stopped re-stocking Converge starting a year or so ago. Stuff simply isn't selling, partly because of the much higher prices for EX/CORE/PB/etc (the local fan base simply isn't willing to pay those figures for small PVC toys) but also because, according to some stores, Bandai has been flooding the market with supply, so stores are unable to make much profit. One store gave the examples of classic sets like SP01 and Operation Jaburo...reason they continue to be worth so much and remain sought after is because they were produced in very limited numbers. Interest has certainly waned...quite often prices tank a few months after release as retailers try to get rid of their stock. Last month, the EX Gundam Thunderbolt dipped to ~$17 USD just a few months after coming out. Operation Revive Asia was a total flop, stores were selling it as low as ~$15 per set. I'm personally waiting for the prices to tank on the Nightingale so I can get one. Virtually nobody in HK imported the recent PB CORE Nu + Sazabi.

    7. By the way...the God Gundam will have optional accessories, including the "God Finger" claw weapons and the halo ring thing on its back. https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/images/fotolife/c/candywrite/20170519/20170519084937.jpg I highly doubt these are part of the retail Converge package and will most likely be part of some PB option set.

    9. My main beef with this set is that they are not finishing off the Wing EW figures. How on earth can they justify doing 3 out of 5 from a show focused so clearly on 5 suites! It literally boggles the mind D:

Not gunna lie, glad I jumped on the FW SD Neo train early. Seeing a Kampfer = drooling.

As for your comment on the comments Sergeant, that is so spot on. I have learned so much from reading through these and talking with you, Frank, and other commentors. I might be a bit biased but I really feel that having more active readers contribute to the site, through something like anchor posts from different countries, would be really interesting, informative and fun. But hey that's just me!

    10. Although I understand the frustration, this is a opportunity for those who may be starting now with the Converge series, or even for those who didn't liked the look of the previous versions (me, for instance). But to embark on the same train, I'm sad that Bandai is delaying the conclusion of the Wing EW and 00 series (I'm dying for a Virtue/Nadleeh set), and we could see more AoZ units. They're crazy stuff!
Lastly, I thank you so much for all the discussion; especially 'cause it's difficult to get Gundam stuff in Brazil, so all of the ideas, gossips and analysis help me a lot!

    11. While this new set initially disappointed me I realized that I will probably end up buying more from this set than any previous set.

I have held off on Unicorn Converge since every single release of it has been some over priced EX so now I can buy 2 and paint the green frame. Hearing that the God Gundam will come with all those extras I will buy 2 of those and make one gold. Finally I really wanted the Zeta plus in Amuro colors but just like with the Unicorn the EX version wasn't worth it so instead I will end up getting both A and C versions and just paint the A.

    13. @H H: You'll find half a dozen or so regular sellers on eBay and after a while you will start to recognize which ones deal in full sets and/or singles. I've never had any issues with figures bought from Japan or Hong Kong myself, although it pays to shop around. Best mailorder for picking up full sets of new Shokugan? I'd say amiami.com.

  50. Sarge/GKassiday -- completely agree that there's a wealth of knowledge and experiences here that ought to be more broadly shared. An English-language blog to rival the recent Converge Station. To be honest I have yet to find a Japanese Converge blog that goes into as much scrutiny over individual units' construction, comparisons, commentary on trends, etc. Most are simply hobbyists taking macro shots of their toys in dioramas and such, with little in the way of commentary.

Not sure how you'd begin though. Problem is even writing a simple review is quite time consuming and I'm guessing most of us here have full time jobs. (no, selling Converge on eBay is not my day job) For a long time I had considered writing a review of the RX-78-2 Origin grey factory prototype mould that got some months ago and passing it to you but just never got the time...

      - Release in 2018 Q1
      - Can fit six Converge units
      - 36cm x 33cm x 16cm

There is a separate announcement about White Base Color Image Ver. which is simply a promotional poster.

Limited to 150 pieces; must "apply" from May through October 2017, need to accumulate 3000 points to be eligible for applying. Points can be racked up by purchasing recent and upcoming Converge units. For example a Psycho Gundam already gets you 3000 points but whereas the standard #/sharp sets only get 500.

    2. William, please see my earlier post(s) about In's Point, Sino Center, and Richmond Arcade. Converge has definitely been waning in popularity in Hong Kong due to the increased prices of EX/SP/CORE/etc so far fewer places have these in stock compared with when I had written the earlier notes. Many shops do Converge, but only on a pre-order basis so the stock will unlikely make it on to store shelves. I can help you locate specific units or sets if you so require.

I like the reprinted figures, although I felt that the older SP04 Qubeley is superior to the new ones.

Also, 3 out of 4 of my figures had some minor but noticeable defects on the paints (missed colors, scratches, chipped paint, etc). I hope I am just unlucky, and its not a common issue with the #07 release. Please tell me if any of you have similar problems.

    2. I wouldn't worry about it. God/Shining Gundam and Master Gundam are released in most figure series (and card games), normally followed by the Devil Gundam or that horrible robotic horse but that's pretty much it. Overall pretty solid list for me except for anther Char Zaku, but I guess that to match Octobers RX78-2.

      Delete
    2. The only thing I am really stoked for here is the R-Jarja. Of course the green Zaku II will also be useful for many collectors. The product page says you can switch between bazooka and machine gun armament on the Zakus. I hope this means both weapons will be included in each box and not become some hidden variations. Would have been even better if there was a commander type helmet for the green unit as well.

But... another Wing Gundam? Really? At least after this one we'll have all the four variants on the line-up so perhaps we can see something more original next time. How about Epyon for example? (Dang, I forgot the Neo Bird Mode version. Maybe it will show up as a really expensive parts-swapping EX figure). :)

      Delete
    3. While I like most of us are pretty tired of Zaku II rehashes I did notice that this sculpt is pretty different. Here is a quick comparison image. https://imgur.com/a/s6xhS Unfortunately the new sculpt looks more clunky and retro to me which is a turn off IMO. I am really liking the more angular aggressive sculpts that the new Converge are going for and this seems to be a back step. That being said I am stoked for the R Jaja and the two Master Gundams. Seeing the new Wing Gundam just makes me that much more anxious that they will never finish Sandrock and Altron :'(

      Delete
    4. I think the green zaku will be well-received, given how expensive and hard to find the original Part 2 figure has become. Not sure about Char's custom however, that was just released last year in #02. And besides...if they had wanted to go with the ZZ theme, why not release a pair of green and grey Zaku IIIs? I think everyone would go crazy for those.

      Delete
    5. To be nitpicky -- per Bandai's description this is technically the Enhanced ZZ Gundam, so it's technically not a mere re-sculpt of Part 12 ZZ Gundam. Visually both should be near-identical except for some differences in backpack weaponry and armor coating.
